1 | LIGHTING SKILLS

Lighting is critical.  I'm responsible for making sure that your period piece isn't lit like a romcom and that your Nike ad has the dramatic edge you envisioned.  I've studied lighting techniques for years and understand both style AND implementation.  I have an artistic eye for contrast, color, highlight, and shadow – all of which impact visual tone.

2 | PHOTOGRAPHIC KNOWLEDGE & AN ARTISTIC EYE

I have knowledge of Arri, RED, Sony, Canon, and Blackmagic cameras / technical knowledge of monitors, LED walls, gimbals, dollies, cranes, light meters, and media management / knowledge of exposure, depth of field, lens choice, filtration, color science, and codecs.  Most importantly, I have an artistic eye for composition.

3 | PRE-PRODUCTION / PLANNING

I'll collaborate with the director (and other department heads) on visual style, shot selection, boards, blocking, & color palette.  I'll generate camera, lighting, & grip equipment lists (with respective department heads).  I'll communicate with post production staff on filming specs and media management.  I'll create both lighting plots and camera plots.

4 | FILMING / PRODUCTION

I'll direct camera, lighting, and grip crews.  I'll light and frame shots.  I'll operate camera.  I'll implement the pre-production filming plan.  I'll always adjust on set per the director's notes.  I'll execute photographic tasks efficiently so that filming is completed ON SCHEDULE and ON BUDGET.

5 | COMMUNICATION

I’ll communicate clearly throughout the entire production process, and always make sure that I am making the same film as you, the director.  By that I mean I’ll do everything in my power to make sure we are on the same page.  I’ll keep communication lines open over text, email, and phone in the weeks leading up to filming.  I'll always conduct myself in a positive and constructive manner.
